Manuel Pinheiro

Full Professor at IST-UL

Manuel Duarte Pinheiro is a Full Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Universidade de Lisboa, and a member of the research unit IST-CERIS (Civil Engineering Research and Innovation for Sustainability) is an FCT-registered research unit operating). He is an environmental engineer (1982, FCT, New University of Lisbon), with PhD in Environmental Engineering in the area of Environmental Management and Sustainable Construction (2008, Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa) and Environmental Engineering Habilitation (2018). He is engaged with several associations and was chairman of the Board of APEA (Portuguese Association of Environmental Engineers) for the following three biennia (1988/1991, 1993/1995, and 1995/1997).

Manuel Pinheiro has more than 30 years of consulting experience (more than 400 projects) and 20 years of scientific and research activities in environmental sustainability and sustainable built assessment. Teach over 140 courses to PhD programs and engineering masters of environmental, civil, and energy management and architecture. He finished as supervisor 6 PhD theses (Civil Engineering and Architecture) and more than 100 master theses (Environmental Eng., Architecture, Civil Eng., Industrial Management Eng., Energy Management Eng.). He is the author or co-author of more than 40 papers in scientific journals; 5 books; 70 conference papers. The breakdown of publications by categories reveals a strong component in environmental and sustainable assessment, construction technologies, energy, and environmental sciences / ecological technologies / environmental studies / environmental engineering. Also, have strong collaborations with a broad range of areas in the publication with a partnership of more than 70 colleagues. Manuel Pinheiro is a reviewer of more than 20 international scientific journals. Editor of topical collection Sustainable Built Environment in the Journal Sustainability.
