Assistant Professor at IST-UL

A Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, and Chairman of Partex Oil and Gas Group, he graduated in Mining Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (1983), earned a Master’s in Petroleum Engineering from Imperial College London (1984), and completed his PhD jointly at Imperial College and the Technical University of Lisbon (1994), focusing on stochastic models in petroleum reservoirs. With over 25 years as a Senior Reservoir Engineer, he specializes in reservoir characterization, integrating geosciences with engineering to build dynamic models and apply mathematical and stochastic methods. His expertise includes reservoir management, full-field development planning, reserves evaluation, and strategies to maximize oil recovery. His work spans global regions like the North Sea, Middle East, Central Asia, West Africa, and the Americas.

He frequently speaks at major energy conferences worldwide, including events such as the 2007 Transatlantic Energy Dialogues by the Marshall Fund in Potsdam, the Energy Security Seminar by Deutsch Bank in Berlin (2007), and the Brookings Institution’s 2010 seminar on transatlantic energy strategies in Washington. Other notable events include the ADIPEC CEO Summits (2010, 2016, 2017) in Abu Dhabi, the World Upstream Conference in Geneva (2011), and the 23rd Middle East Petroleum & Gas Conference in Abu Dhabi (2015). He also presented at the European University Institute’s seminar on global security challenges for Europe in Florence (2011).
