The activity titled “Sustainability and Life Cycle Cost Assessment (LCCA)” under the R2UTechnologies project is a comprehensive effort aimed at integrating sustainability and circular economy principles into modular concrete construction.
This Activity involves a detailed analysis of the relevance and alignment of modular concrete construction with global sustainability and circularity goals. This includes the development of sustainability criteria, the creation of checklists to ensure the integration of these criteria into the various project activities, and the establishment of information requirements for conducting Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Life Cycle Costing (LCC) studies.
Objectives
- Integrated Sustainability: Establish sustainability and circular economy criteria for modular concrete construction.
- Develop Tools: Create checklists and information matrices to guide other project activities on incorporating sustainability.
- Conduct Assessments: Perform LCA and LCC studies to evaluate the environmental and economic impact of the project’s solutions.
- Create Eco-Design Sheets: Develop eco-design sheets based on LCA and LCC outcomes to guide sustainable construction practices.
- Obtain EPDs: Secure Type III EPDs for project components and the overall solution to validate environmental claims.
- Develop Circularity Passports: Produce circularity passports to ensure that the modular construction solutions are aligned with circular economy principles.
- This activity aims to ensure that the modular concrete construction developed within the R2UTechnologies project is both sustainable and economically viable, contributing to the broader goals of reducing environmental impact and promoting circularity in the construction industry.
