João Palma is a PhD student enrolled in the Doctoral Program in Civil Engineering who is currently working on topics related to the digitalization of the construction sector. He completed his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico in 2018, after which he began his master’s degree in civil engineering at the same institute, completing it in 2022. Between 2020 and 2021, he earned a scholarship to participate in the Rev@Construction project, which was completed in 2023 and aimed to accelerate the digitalization of the construction industry, where he developed functionalities for BIM libraries built on top of BIM authoring software. In the first two quarters of 2023, he participated in the development of a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) plugin where he created tools to allow users to import data provided by Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) platforms, such as EC3 and ECO Portal, directly into their BIM models. Still within the context of this project, a benchmarking tool for pitch and flat roof solutions was also developed, along with some data visualization tools that allow users to have an overview of a BIM model’s environmental analysis. In the third quarter of 2023, he enrolled in the PhD program and earned a scholarship to participate in the current R2UTechnologies Innovation Pact.
