R2U Technologies Showcased at ISPRS Geospatial Week 2025 in Dubai

The R2U Technologies project was proudly represented at the ISPRS Geospatial Week 2025, held in Dubai, through the presentation of a scientific paper on surface quality assessment of prefabricated concrete panels using computer vision.

The paper, titled “Evaluation of Surface Quality in the Prefabrication of Concrete Panels using Computer Vision”, was presented by Paul Debus (IST) and co-authored with Jonatas Valença (LNEC).

The ISPRS Geospatial Week is a leading international forum in the field of photogrammetry, remote sensing and spatial information sciences. It gathers researchers, industry professionals, and institutions from around the world to share the latest advances in geo-spatial technologies and their application across various domains. The participation of R2U Technologies in this context reinforces the project’s global relevance and scientific impact.

The presented research introduces a robust, computer vision-based methodology for quality control in prefabrication, focused on detecting visible surface color deviations in concrete panels using the ∆E metric. The method addresses key challenges in modular construction by distinguishing between critical defects (such as rust or contamination) and acceptable texture variations inherent to concrete surfaces.

This innovation enables automated, reliable surface inspection before components leave the factory, improving quality assurance and reducing rework. Additionally, the methodology is being developed to integrate with Building Information Modeling (BIM) platforms, allowing for full digital traceability of components and supporting circular construction principles through better lifecycle documentation.

By presenting this work at one of the most prominent international conferences in the geo-spatial field, R2U Technologies affirms its contribution to driving forward innovation in modular, sustainable concrete construction, bridging scientific excellence with practical industrial application.
