António Gonçalves

Coordinator Researcher at IST-UL

António Pereira Gonçalves is a Coordinator Researcher at IST’s Department of Nuclear Sciences and Engineering (DECN) since 2017 and serves as president of the Center for Nuclear Sciences and Technologies (C2TN). His research began in 1986 at ICEN/LNETI, culminating in a PhD in Chemistry from the Technical University of Lisbon (1996), focusing on UFe12-xMx intermetallic compounds. Gonçalves has collaborated with leading international labs in Germany, Denmark, France, and the Netherlands, and organized major conferences such as the “14th European Conference on Thermoelectrics” and the “18th International Conference on Solid Compounds of Transition Elements.” Author of over 280 scientific papers and 400 presentations, he also edits PeerJ Physical Chemistry and Materials Science.His research spans Solid State and Inorganic Chemistry, Nanostructured Materials, and Nuclear Materials for Peaceful Applications. Currently, he focuses on uranium compounds and thermoelectric materials for waste heat recovery and sensor applications, advancing both fundamental and applied material studies.
