João Ramôa Correia, a Full Professor in Civil Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon, holds a 5-year degree in Civil (Structural) Engineering (2001), an MSc in Construction (2004), a PhD (2008), and Habilitation (2015) in Civil Engineering. He teaches Construction Technology and Building Pathology and Rehabilitation and leads the CORE research group at CERIS, focusing on advanced fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites for civil engineering. CORE’s main research includes FRP mechanical performance, connection technology, durability, fire resistance, and sustainability. João has led 6 of his 20+ research projects, contributing to over 5.5 million euros in funding, and supervised 21 PhD theses (with 9 ongoing) and 99 MSc dissertations (with 10 ongoing). His publication record exceeds 200 papers in SCI journals (Scopus h-index 43 as of 12/2023).
Noteworthy FRP projects include the São Mateus Footbridge, São Silvestre Footbridge, Clickhouse modular system, and A33 hydraulic underpasses. He has also contributed to over 300 consultancy studies, performing structural surveys, load tests, and advanced numerical simulations. João serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Composites for Construction, Composite Structures, and the Fire Safety Journal, and led the development of the CEN Technical Specification for Fibre-Polymer Composite Structures (future Eurocode) from 2018-2022. His contributions to structural engineering were recognized with the 2012 IABSE Prize, the 2016 IIFC Distinguished Young Researcher Award, and the 2023 IIFC President’s Award.
