Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering, ISEC – Coimbra Institute of Engineering, since 1998 until now, where he teaches several disciplines in the field of concrete structures and has had several institution roles. In the past, he also taught in other institutions: University of Coimbra (1996) and Polytechnic of Leiria (2007 and 2009). Created with other colleagues a Laboratory of Structures to perform experimental tests for scientific and pedagogic purposes. In the beginning of his career, he worked as a structural engineer in a company dedicated mainly to projects. Member of GPBE (Portuguese Group of Structural Concrete) and Portuguese Association of Engineers. Currently, he is also a researcher at CERIS, Civil Engineering Research and Innovation for Sustainability, IST. Principal investigator in two projects co-promoted with the industry funded by the Portuguese government and team member of other five funded projects. Author of 57 scientific papers published in international journals (h-index = 16 Scopus), 6 in national journals, 38 in international conferences, and 25 in national conferences. Supervisor of 32 MSc (concluded) and 4 PhD (one concluded and 3 ongoing) students. Member of juries in theses’ examinations, active reviewer for several international journals, and reviewer of scientific projects for Slovenia and Poland. In the beginning, his research interests were ductility, moment redistribution and LWAC structures, more recently are cracking, SLS, durability, prefabrication and sustainable concrete solutions.
